This is so telling, at least in one generation (now maybe two), the visible signs have segregation have been reduced. In the movie, it's obvious he's pro-Civil Rights and pro votes for everyone -- that is never in doubt. He just gets caught up in politics and timing. I think that focusing on a perceived distortion of the way LBJ is portrayed takes away from the message of the movie. http://www.newyorker.com/news/amy-davidson/selma-fair-l-b-jLois Alter Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00457009348917459495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4969669656958290240.post-76181067388096630052015-01-22T09:59:55.349-08:002015-01-22T09:59:55.349-08:00LBJ had his faults, for sure, but being against th...LBJ had his faults, for sure, but being against the civil rights movement was NOT one of them. He's the one who got it passed! Check out his library, much is devoted to civil rights and the Mississippi civil rights workers who were killed. It makes me so angry when people change history! http://travelswithtam.com/lbj-presidential-library-boomers/Travels with Tamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12216338498829504515noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4969669656958290240.post-21392296495730531152015-01-21T18:54:17.907-08:002015-01-21T18:54:17.907-08:00Agree with everything you say.....Because of the t...Agree with everything you say.....Because of the times, MLK could not have accomplished what he did without the support of someone who had the ear of the general population....LBJ and MLK, they were a team. I understand that Selma is just a movie, but a lot of people will take it at face value, and I don't agree with the misrepresentation of LBJ (I have not seem the movie, just read about it). I also agree that things are getting better and better all the time....although most of us are not completely fair minded, I think things are heading in the right direction......there are still violations of human rights all over the place, but things that were "alright" in the past, are not "alright" now.... minorities, women, the handicapped, children, those of different sexual orientation.....all are being less and less marginalized all the time. It is a process, a slow and spiraling process, but we are heading the right direction.Stephanie Hendersonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4969669656958290240.post-64497613595770755142015-01-21T18:36:04.223-08:002015-01-21T18:36:04.223-08:00Yes. And people will watch this movie and think badly of LBJ when in fact, he got more done on civil rights than just about any other president. But don't get me started.Carol Cassarahttp://www.carolcassara.comnoreply@blogger.com
